about

Decades In A Day is a song in two voices - part confessional and part conversational. It's a song that remembers what it's like to be a kid in your room, listening to a song and taking endless comfort in that escape and that protection. It's also a testament to all the highs and lows of being a parent - of putting in years and years of love that will inevitably fade, and shift, and dissipate, in the way that it should or the way that it has to.
The La La La La Las were inspired by seeing The Shins at an outdoor festival on the south coast of New South Wales, and celebrating the simple act of a singalong in which anyone can sing the words, even if they don't know them.
We recorded this song with Tim Kevin, who also recorded the rest of our upcoming album, You Don't Have Time To Stay Lost. Tim did a great job on the whole record, but he really helped to sculpt the sonics of this one, and we really appreciate what he did to make this song what it is now.

lyrics

Decades in a day

I know that I will break
Just a little when you’ve a new home to make
That is free of the love and the lunches I’ve made you
The Lego, the stories, the rumbles
The song that I sang you to sleep with
It went la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

I know the way this ends
That it’s not my job for us to just be friends
It’s that end of the summer school holiday feeling
I’m nervous and bored and excited and reeling
The start of the end

In the safety of my room
I can listen to this tune
All the words that you have said
Just collapse inside my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
The song goes
la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

I know that I can be
A great ally or a fierce adversary
Well I’m not looking to stop you from being who you’ll be
You worked that early
It’s obvious to me
Be kind and be true

In the safety of my room
I can listen to this tune
All the words that you have said
Just collapse inside my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
In my head
You’re in my head
The song goes
la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la
It goes
la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

Tell me what you want
Tell me what you want from me
Tell me what you want
Tell me what you want to see

All these words will slip away
Just like decades in a day
All these words
Will slip away

about

The Electorate Sydney, Australia

The Electorate is Nick Kennedy, Eliot Fish and Josh Morris.

We started off life a while back, when we kicked around as the Templebears. We split, with Nick and Eliot joining Big Heavy Stuff, and Josh starting up Atticus.

Years later we reformed for a one off benefit and decided to finish the album we had started so long ago.

'You Don't Have Time To Stay Lost' is that album & it's out soon.
